1/12/13 Wharton Forest trail work

Current TWC forecast for the Saturday 1/12/13 Wharton State Forest trail work day looks good. We are planning to walk over to the short section that is west of the firetower, do some drainage nick maintanance, drop some gravel in the one loose spot, maybe even move that big dead oak all the way off the trail and rake out the next section over.

WVP/CR Round 3 of storm clean up Jan 12th @ 9am

We want to try & get another clean up day in as most the trails are cleared but they are far from perfect. I'd also like to ride come spring time instead of doing a massive amount of TM. This is weather dependent. Plan is to focus on getting the White trail back to a safe and enjoyable section. Meeting as usual at Newmans Lane @ 9am. It's an easy walk from the lot to White. Tools & such with be supplied. Dress warm.

Hope to see you there.

2013 WVP/CR Park closing dates for Deer Management Program

Just a heads up that Bridgewater Township will be doing their Deer Management Program again at Washington Valley Park AKA Chimney Rock. The park will be closed the following Wednesdays only:

January 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

February 6

Washington Valley/Chimney Rock round 2 of the storm clean up-Dec 1st @ 9am

Many have been asking & we now have another date set for trail clearing/clean up. Saturday Dec 1st @ 9am. Most likely we will start tackling the Red Trail. The County/Park Rangers have the chainsaws & we have most of the other tools that will be needed. If you want to bring a hand saw of some sort you are more than welcome. Even if you can only be there for a short time it will help. We are meeting at 9am at Newmans Lane lot as usual. Again I hope to see many of you there.

Thanks to Ringwood Volunteers

Thanks to 22 volunteers that came out today to help Jorba clear/repair the trails after Hurricane Sandy. Many, many downed trees were cut out, cleared and several re-routes were made. The main Corridor from Shepherds Lake all the way to Whites Rd and top of Skyline Dr has been cleared: race course, Skylands Trail and Ringwood -Ramapo Trail are good to go. Volunteers worked 116 hours total.

A big thanks to:

Washington Valley/Chimney Rock TM/Sandy clean up 11/10 9am

We are going to start the long process of clearing the trails at Washington Valley/Chimney Rock this Saturday 11/10. There are so many trees down that some will be left & rerouted around. The parks assessment is that there might be 5 times as many trees down than the snow storm from last year. We will begin on the Blue trail first. The County has the chainsaws & any other tools needed will be supplied. Even if you can only be there for a short time it will help. We are meeting at 9am at Newmans Lane. Hope to see some of you there.

Updated Park Closure list

This is a list of park closures from the States DEP site. Please note that it does NOT include County Parks and we will try to compile a list of those as well. Please note that JORBA reps are trying to get tm sessions scheduled to reopen our trails.

State Parks still closed

Hey folk, the State Parks are still closed from what we understand. Please stay out until they reopen, and please don't take your chainsaws into these parks and work on your own. These actions will only create tension between our user community and the parks. In time we will organize tm sessions to correct what Sandy did so we can enjoy the trails again, but for now lets worry about getting gasoline. Thanks for your cooperation.

West Milford Family Pump Track Grand Opening

On behalf of the organizers of the WMFPT, we want to thank our volunteers, our sponsors and political supporters for making the WMFPT a reality. We had over 300 people attend the Grand Opening this past Sunday and it was way beyond expectations. Here's a story from West Milford AIM: http://www.jorba.org/node/827
