Warren County recreational trails getting boost from federal grant funds
More than $1.8 million in federal grant money is being allocated for developing, maintaining and improving recreational trails throughout New Jersey including several in Warren County, the Department of Environmental Protection announced Dec. 2.
The funds will improve access to open space, enhance environmental resources, create urban and suburban corridors and provide additional hiking, biking and horseback riding opportunities.
In Warren County, Allamuchy Mountain State Park received $16,000 to develop a multi-use trail along Allamuchy Pond in cooperation with the Jersey Off Road Bicycle Association.
Numerous multi-county trail systems were awarded grant money for maintenance and improvements, including the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Warren and Sussex counties and trails in Warren County managed by New Jersey Audubon Society.
