“GNP” is a 117-acre gravel pit that has been closed for over a decade. The Township of Galloway acquired the property and converted it into a Nature Preserve.
Three years ago, Atlantic County JORBA Chapter Lead, Kevin Akeret, developed a proposal and trail build plan to present to the township to build and maintain multi use trails at the Preserve. The plan for this parcel is to take advantage of the elevation changes, the only property in South Jersey that could offer this unique terrain. There are additional trail systems under the JORBA Atlantic County Chapter’s stewardship (i.e. Seaview, Port Republic, and Estell Manor) which are flow trails with little elevation change.
The proposal was quickly approved by the Township and work started immediately. There are three trails designed for the Preserve. The 2-mile White Trail is an easy double track with a few small elevation changes that are beginner friendly. The 4-mile orange trail has many small hills and a few larger ones to get the heart rate up. A ton of corners were designed into this trail to help master cornering. Portions of this trail are utilized for NICA youth mountain bike practice and events. A recent addition to the Orange Trail are three skills sections: step ups, Log overs, and small drops). There is also a skills area being built adjacent to the parking area with a challenging 50’ pole skinny. All to be ridden within a riders skill level.
Currently under construction, the Blue Trail is the most challenging trail in the Preserve. Today, 1.5 miles of the trail is built and ridable with ~4 plus more miles under construction. The trail will challenge your climbing and switchback riding skills. This trail is the most difficult, time consuming and costly trail to build for this area. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and donations, we are very happy with the progress so far.
All three of the GNP trails are on Trailforks along with the Seaview Trails, located approximately 2 miles away.
