Our mission is to maintain the multi-use trails of Allaire State Park for all users using IMBA’s sustainable trail science.

Who can help out?

Any user of the trails (mountain bikers, horseback riders, hikers) and other concerned parties who are willing to put forth the effort, commitment, and patience required to support this effort. Your commitment as a volunteer is needed to support this program.

What is the action plan?

ATUG is now working on a monthly basis between March and October to build and maintain the multi-use trails of Allaire State Park. In some cases, trails are re-routed to better utilize the terrain needs and to minimize user impact.

When is work done?

We meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Hospital Rd. parking lot. We work one Sunday per month from March to November. Tools are provided and the session lasts until approximately 12 noon.

Please remember to bring your bike because we always enjoy a post-trail-maintenance cruise!

Maintenance is carried out by volunteers. Help us keep the trails in their best condition!

Allaire State Park, located in Howell and Wall Townships in Monmouth County, New Jersey, offers a diverse network of mountain biking trails suitable for various skill levels. The park features both marked and unmarked trails, providing riders with numerous routes to explore.

Trail Overview:

Marked Trails: The park has four main marked trails:

Orange Trail (Pine Trail): A 4.5-mile loop rated as moderate, featuring tight, twisty singletrack with short, punchy climbs and occasional roots.

Blue Trail (Mountain Laurel Trail): An easy-to-moderate 3-mile loop suitable for most riders.

White Trail (Oak Trail): A 2.6-mile loop that splits off from the Pine Trail, offering a mix of easy-to-moderate terrain with some more challenging sections.

Pink Trail (Boy Scout Trail): A 1.3-mile loop around the group camping sites, providing an easy-to-moderate ride.

Unmarked Trails: In addition to the marked trails, there are many miles of unmarked trails maintained by the Allaire Trail Users Group (ATUG), a volunteer organization comprising mountain bikers, equestrians, and hikers. These trails feature packed sand paths with a few roots and are relatively flat, making them accessible to riders of all levels.

Trail Conditions and Features:

The terrain primarily consists of packed sand with occasional roots, and the trails are relatively flat with no significant elevation changes. Riders can enjoy a variety of features, including jump lines and technical sections, catering to both beginners and advanced riders. The park is also frequented by equestrians and trail runners, so it’s important to be mindful of other trail users.

Access and Parking:

The main parking area for the mountain biking trails is located off Hospital Road on the eastern edge of the park. The park can be accessed via the Edgar Felix Bikeway, a 5.4-mile rail trail connecting Manasquan to Allaire State Park, providing a scenic route for cyclists and pedestrians.
